Innovations in Teaching and Learning

In order to improve teaching methods, research focus, and the development of innovative teaching and learning methodologies, the Sri Vishnu Educational Society (SVES) launched the Vishnu Educational Development & Innovation Centre (VEDIC) in Hyderabad and Bangalore. The faculty is currently focused on outcome-based education (OBE) and actively uses it to meet students' learning needs in creative ways. The following methods are used when instructing.

Lecture method and Interactive learning:

When lecturing, the faculty primarily uses audio visual aids and chalk and board. By having their questions answered right away, students are also encouraged to actively participate in the lecture period. For interactive instruction in a variety of areas, such as chemistry, unit operations, drug design, animal simulator software, etc., faculty use models and charts.

Computer-assisted learning:

The college's classrooms are equipped with the necessary number of PCs, printers, and LCD projectors. These work well in the classroom. Additionally, students are encouraged to present their project findings, presentations, and seminars.

Computer aided drug design (CADD):

Schrodinger software is used in the institution's computer-aided drug design (CADD) facility. Faculty will use the facility to educate students about pharmacophore modeling identification, QSAR investigations, and drug receptor integrations.

Mind mapping exercise:

For students, a mind map is a visual representation of ideas and concepts. This visual thinking tool aids in the organization of information and improves analysis, comprehension, synthesis, memory, and the generation of new ideas in children.

Technology integration:

Education has been transformed by the incorporation of technology into instruction. Faculty members are at the forefront of implementing and creating cutting-edge tactics like flipped classrooms, which use online lecture content for pre-class learning and in-class discussion and problem-solving time, game-based learning components to make learning more interesting, and virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) tools for individualized learning that improve student engagement, comprehension, and skill development.

Interdisciplinary approaches:

Students are encouraged to investigate subjects from several angles through interdisciplinary teaching, which connects knowledge from other fields to address challenging issues. Innovations in this field led by faculty members encourage critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork while preparing students for complex real-world problems. Our college offers interdisciplinary courses in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence and machine learning, labview.

Assessment innovations:

Beyond standard tests and essays, assessment innovations use projects, reflective journals, and other methods to measure learning outcomes in novel and relevant ways. Using apps like Kahoot, Quizizz, and others, faculty are reinventing assessment processes to offer more equitable, personalized, and authentic evaluations.

Integration of research in teaching:

Integrating research into teaching bridges the gap between knowledge creation and knowledge dissemination, allowing students to engage with the latest advancements in their fields. Faculty innovations in this area promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of the research process by engaging students in faculty-led research projects as part of their course work and by encouraging students to co-author papers or present at conferences.
